What is the procedure?

In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproduction procedure in which egg cells are fertilized outside a woman's womb. The technique involves hormonal stimulation of the ovulatory process, removal of the ova, outside fertilization, and implantation of the zygote (fertilized egg) into the uterus.

How is the procedure performed?

Micromanipulator
  1. Ovarian Stimulation: Typically started on the third day of menstruation, a regiment of fertility medication is used to stimulate the production of follicles of the ovaries. The process lasts about 10 days and is always under strict monitoring and control.
  2. Oocyte retrieval: The eggs (oocyte) are retrieved under general anesthesia. The process takes about 15 minutes. The partner's sperm is also collected at this point.
  3. Fertilization: In the next stage the eggs are stripped of surrounding cells and the semen is separated from inactive cells. During the next 3 to 5 days fertilization of the egg occurs until it has reached the 6 to 8 cell stage.
  4. Selection and implantation: Laboratory testing, including PGD, if requested, are used to select the optimal embryos for transfer. The embryo is then transfered into the uterus - to avoid multiple pregnancies, only one embryo is transfered unless otherwise requested.

What is the success rate?

The success of a single cycle implantation via IVF depends on multiple factors including age, quality of the sperm and egg, and various health issues. Regardless, our clinic achieves a high 60% success rate per cycle.
