What is the procedure?

The knee is the biggest joint in the body and if damaged can cause severe pain an discomfort. Knee replacement surgery is helpful when suffering from osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and other degenerative conditions that limit normal activities such as walking, climbing the stairs or even sitting. The procedure is also useful if a person has chronic knee swelling that prevents bending and cannot not be treated by various other methods such as exercise, pain killers, medication and other therapies.

What does the package include?

The knee replacement package includes transportation between the airport, clinic, and hotel, 4 days stay at a hotel, 5 days stay at the clinic and 7 days at a specialized rehabilitation center. It further includes all consultation and surgeon's fees, all anesthesiologist fees, initial and final examinations and any necessary medication for surgery and recovery.

How is the procedure performed?

The knee of the patient is kept in a bent position so that all parts of the joint can be seen easily. The incision of about 6 to 12 inches is subsequently made in the area. Thereafter the surgeon moves aside the muscles, knee cap, and connective tissues and removes the damaged joint parts of the knee and replaces them with the prosthesis. The surgeon then rotates and bends the knee to balance and test it to ensure that the knee functions properly and finally stitches are made to close the incision.

General anesthesia is used throughout the entire procedure. The surgery lasts about two hours.

What are the benefits of the procedure?

More than 95% of the people undergoing knee replacement surgery experience significant reduction in pain, better mobility and quality of the life. The patient is able to resume routine daily activities after about two weeks and participate in moderate sports in a few months.
